Methodology · How every guide is verified

Every claim in a Salah Nomad guide carries a hallmark. Here is how it earns it.

Salah Nomad is an independent publisher in Málaga. Before a rent range, a professional contact or a visa step reaches one of our 22 guides, it is sourced, graded, dated and open to correction. This page is the standard, for readers who are about to make a high-stakes decision in Spain and for the professionals who work with them.

  • 3 grades of evidence, shown on every claim
  • 137+ professional contacts tested
  • 0 % commission, ever
  • 14 days to review any correction

Claim inspectorPick a claim. See what stands behind it.

The claim

Rent for a one-bedroom flat in a central Málaga neighbourhood.

Illustrative claim: the structure is real, the wording is shortened.

SALAH NOMAD · MÁLAGA · FIELD VERIFIED ·B
Triangulated

The evidence trail

  1. Public listings (Idealista, Fotocasa, Habitaclia), read as a range, a trend and a specific street.
  2. Direct enquiries to landlords and agencies, repeated, including whether a foreign tenant is accepted.
  3. Personal network: people who moved in or out of that neighbourhood.
  4. Signed contracts, whenever a tenant agrees to share one. The gold standard, and the hardest to get.
Freshness
Dated when published and re-checked at each codex verification.
What it does not promise
A baseline of what others recently paid, not a prediction of what you will pay.

The claim

A lawyer, gestor or tax adviser named in a city codex.

Illustrative claim: the structure is real, the wording is shortened.

SALAH NOMAD · MÁLAGA · FIELD VERIFIED ·A
Primary

The evidence trail

  1. Registration checked against the official register or professional body.
  2. Still in active practice, confirmed by direct contact, with current fees.
  3. Real experience with non-EU clients, the people who hit the unusual cases.
  4. A test message answered promptly, and a clear fee structure before any engagement.
  5. A reader who used the service and vouches for it, unprompted.
Freshness
Re-confirmed at each verification. Removed if a reader is failed.
What it does not promise
A listing is not advice for your case. You contract directly and check the registration yourself.

The claim

A procedural step for a residence, tax or registration filing.

Illustrative claim: the structure is real, the wording is shortened.

SALAH NOMAD · MÁLAGA · FIELD VERIFIED ·A
Primary

The evidence trail

  1. Official portals first: the BOE, the Ministry of Inclusion's immigration site, consulates.
  2. Lawyers and gestorías who handle these files every week, to learn where law and practice differ.
  3. First-hand experience of filing in Spain and of the queues.
Freshness
Checked against the official text at publication. Rules change: the date is always shown.
What it does not promise
No legal advice, no guaranteed outcome, no certain timeline. The reviewing officer decides.

The claim

Flood exposure, noise zoning or thermal comfort for a neighbourhood.

Illustrative claim: the structure is real, the wording is shortened.

SALAH NOMAD · MÁLAGA · FIELD VERIFIED ·B
Triangulated

The evidence trail

  1. Official flood and acoustic-zone maps, cross-referenced rather than copied.
  2. Observation on the street itself, because a map will not tell you the church bells ring every fifteen minutes.
  3. Testimony from residents in the network.
Freshness
Valid at the verification date, which is printed on the codex.
What it does not promise
A score describes conditions on the day it was checked. It does not replace a technical survey of a building.

The method in one paragraph

What the Hallmark Method is.

The Hallmark Method is how Salah Nomad, an independent publisher in Málaga, verifies the 22 field manuals and city codices it sells. Every claim is sourced from official portals, registers, listings and direct enquiries, then graded A (primary source), B (at least three independent sources) or C (indicative), dated, and published with its limits. Professionals are listed only after registration, responsiveness and fee checks. Nobody pays to be listed, no commission is taken, and every reported error is reviewed within 14 days.

Evidence grades

Three grades. You always know which one you are reading.

A hallmark on a silver spoon tells you the purity of the metal. A grade on a claim tells you how much weight it can carry.

Primary

An official source, a public register or a signed document confirms it.

Safe to build a plan on. Still verify the date.

A filing rule quoted from the BOE. A lawyer found on the official register.

Triangulated

At least three independent sources agree. Shown as a range, with the context that explains it.

Reliable as a baseline. Confirm locally before you commit money.

A rent range from listings, landlord calls and the network.

Indicative

Fewer than three sources, or a single account. Shown with a warning, never presented as a fact.

A lead to follow up, not a number to rely on.

A price one tenant reported and no one else has confirmed.

The grade is a label for the reader. It does not change what we publish: a claim that cannot reach grade C is left out.

The five stages

From a raw fact to a printed claim.

Every figure and contact goes through the same sequence. Tap a stage.

Official sources come first: the BOE, government immigration portals, consulates, professional registers. Then public listings, then direct enquiries. Nothing is taken from a single place.

A figure needs at least three independent sources to reach grade B. Instead of an average, we build a range and the context that explains it: which streets, which variables, which conditions.

We contact professionals ourselves and judge how they respond. We visit the street. We have filed the paperwork. A claim that only works on paper does not pass.

Each guide carries its verification date. Each claim carries its grade and the limit of what it promises. We say what we do not know.

If a contact stops responding or a reader reports a bad experience, we investigate. Valid reports lead to a correction, a removal and an entry in the changelog below.

By topic

How each kind of information is verified.

The four areas where a mistake costs the most.

Rent and housing prices

The most volatile number in any relocation guide, so we publish ranges with context, never a single average.

Sources

  • Public listings: Idealista, Fotocasa, Habitaclia
  • Direct enquiries to landlords and agencies
  • Our own network in Málaga, built since 2021
  • Signed contracts, when a tenant agrees to share one

Honest limits

  • Markets move daily; a snapshot is not a guarantee.
  • A listing is a starting point, not the final price, especially for a foreigner without a Spanish contract.
  • Our data is a baseline, not a prediction.
Professional contacts

A bad lawyer can cost you a visa and a bad agent your deposit. A contact enters a guide only if it passes all the checks.

Sources

  • Official registers and professional bodies, such as the Málaga Bar Association (ICAM) for lawyers
  • A direct call or email to confirm active practice and current fees
  • A test message to measure responsiveness
  • A reader voucher

Honest limits

  • People move, retire or get overwhelmed. We re-check and remove.
  • We keep a private record of removals and do not publish a public bad list.
  • A listing is not a guarantee of results.
Bureaucracy and visas

The fastest-moving area. We quote the official text, then ask the people who file every week what actually happens.

Sources

  • BOE (Boletín Oficial del Estado)
  • Ministry of Inclusion immigration portal and consulate websites
  • Lawyers and gestorías who handle these cases daily
  • Our own filings in Spain

Honest limits

  • We do not give legal advice.
  • We do not guarantee outcomes: they depend on your nationality, income, documents and the officer reviewing your file.
  • Processing times vary widely; we say what we know.
Property and neighbourhood risk

Flood exposure, noise zoning, thermal comfort and co-ownership health, checked against official maps and then on the street.

Sources

  • Official flood-risk and acoustic-zone maps
  • On-site observation
  • Resident testimony
  • Co-ownership records (actas) when a buyer can obtain them

Honest limits

  • A score is valid on the day it is checked.
  • It does not replace a technical survey or a lawyer's review of the title.

Verification ledger

Every city codex, with the date it was last verified.

The freshness badge is computed from today's date, so it stays honest even when nobody has touched the page.

For readers

Where are you reading from?

The method is the same in every country. The traps are not. Choose your origin to see what to verify first.

Verify first

Reporting duties follow you to Spain.

  • Whether your crypto and accounts trigger Spanish asset reporting, such as the Modelo 721.
  • How Spanish tax residency interacts with your US filing duties.
  • Whether a Spanish bank will accept your source of funds.

Verify first

Post-Brexit rules changed the basics.

  • Visa and stay rules for a third-country national, including time limits.
  • Which Spanish bank and which neighbourhood suit a British household.
  • How to buy or rent from abroad without paying a premium.

Verify first

Leaving home has its own tax mechanics.

  • Exit-tax and residency rules in your home country before you move.
  • Whether a special impatriate regime applies and when to apply.
  • Spanish wealth-tax exposure by region.

Verify first

EU freedom of movement, local paperwork.

  • Registration steps that still apply to EU citizens.
  • Freelance (autónomo) status versus employment.
  • Which city fits your work and your climate tolerance.

Verify first

Start from the visa, then the money.

  • Which visa route fits you and what each requires.
  • How to document where your money comes from.
  • Which city codex matches your first year.

General orientation, not tax or legal advice. Rules change: check the date on each guide and confirm with a licensed professional.

What we do not do

Honest about the edges.

A guide is a scout, not a saviour.

  • We do not give legal advice. We are publishers, not lawyers. We point to the law, explain it in plain language and say what we have seen work and fail.
  • We do not guarantee results.A guide is a tool. You still make the calls and choose which advice to follow.
  • We do not claim to know everything. We miss things and make mistakes. We update pages when we find errors, and we want to hear when you do.
  • We do not take money from the people we recommend. No professional pays to be listed. No commission, referral fee or sponsorship. If this ever changes, it will be announced here first.

For professionals in Spain

Work with a publisher whose readers arrive prepared.

Agencies, notaries, lawyers, gestorías, tax advisers, architects and other businesses in Spain that serve English-speaking buyers and residents. Verified professionals are listed at zero cost. Nobody pays, and nobody is paid.

  • 0 % commission or referral fee

Which practice is yours?

What we verify

Registration and fee transparency. Honest answers on flood, noise and co-ownership risk.

What you gain

Buyers who have already read the due-diligence framework and ask better questions.

What we never do

Take a share of your commission, or rank agencies by who pays.

What we verify

Registration, current fees, and clarity on the cases you refuse.

What you gain

Clients who have filed or planned the reporting, such as the Modelo 721, before the first call.

What we never do

Give tax advice in your place or promise outcomes.

What we verify

Registration and a written fee declaration. A refusal of unsafe projects counts in your favour.

What you gain

Buyers who ask for a technical review before they sign.

What we never do

Accept a fee from a seller or developer to feature them.

What we verify

Relocation, insurance, banking contacts, serviced housing, language schools: we decide case by case.

What you gain

A clear, honest listing next to the guide your future client is already reading.

What we never do

Accept sponsorship. If the fit is not obvious, we say so.

Three ways to work together

A verified listing

Listed in the relevant codex after the checks. Free, permanent, and removed if a reader is failed.

The Partnership Pact

Briefed clients

Your English-speaking clients start from the guide that matches their case. You meet them informed. No money moves in either direction.

Frequently asked

The method, in questions.
